"The Times" correspondent at St. Johns, Newfoundland, says:—The success of the Conscription Law exceeds the highest expectations. Military 1 patrols are now gathering up a small number who have defaulted, but virtually all have agreed to enlist. Only one person has been sent to prison, a defaulter who resisted arrest. He was sent to gaol for two years. The Governor, Sir Charles Harris, is now making a series of summer tours to different parts of the eoa»t. and is meeting with cordial receptions everywhere, proving that the vast majority of the people are l.in favour of conscription.
