NAVY LEAGUE
MEETING OF COMMITTEE,
The general committee of the Navy League met last night, Mr Ales. Boyle presiding over a good attendance. The balance at credit of general account w3s reported to be £174 18e 7d. Correspondence was dealt with connexion with tho treatment of New Zealanders serving in the Royal Navy, by the New Zealand Government. The total amount realised to date in connexion with the appeal mado by a joint committoa of the Red Cross and tho Navy League for prisoners of war wa.3 reported to be £12,621 133 sd, the greater portion of which had been remitted to the Cental Prisoners of War Committer. London.
A report submitted by the Secondary and Primary Schools Esfay C'-oinpetition Committee with reference to competitions for 1013 was adopted. A proposal mad«: by the "Wollincrtoa branch that a wreath should bo provided by all j\avy League branches in New Zeola.cd, to be placed on the Kelson column in London on Octobcr '21?t negt i.l\elson Day) was agreed to. A proposal madr by_Mr E. Xewtnaji, M.P , that any excess profits accruing from tb° arranjrementa with tho Imperial Government in connexion with tho Dominion wool clip f-houM be u=ed to establish a national fund for the men of tho naval and mercantile marine nr.d their dependant* was approved, and a resolution to thet effect was passed.
It was T»9obed that a copy of Mr Arr.o'd TTliito's "The Xavy, our Sure Shield" nhould be sont to all primary schools in Xorth Canterbury and 'West! and. Mr P. J. Hanron. jrentaol necretarr of tho Navy League in Loudon, wrote advisinc that hft was resigning from tha position. Kegryt v.as expressed at his action.
