Bailey, District Coroner, held an inquest at Rangiora yesterday • morning, touching the death on Monday last of Elsie Mona aged 7 years, daughter of Mr J. Quinn. Mrs ' Qoinn stated that the child was taken ill about three months ago with a cold, and Dr. Burnett prescribed for her. Sho was kept in bed, except for. : a short time during tho day, and tfas apparently recovering. Just before ; one o'clock on Monday morning tho \ child collapsed, and died in about five minutes. Dr. Burnett gave evidence that he saw the child about three months ago> - and prescribed for it, but did not see it again before it died. The mother .informed him that it was getting better. He refused to give a certificate. He made a post mortem, which dis- . closed a sligntlv diseased 'heart, and symptoms of a slight attack of rheumatic fever. A verdict was given that tho child died of heart disease. Henry Smith, farmer, of View Hill, died suddenly on Tuesday night, the supposed cause being heart disease. Dr. Bagley was called in, but was unable to give a certificate concerning death, and an inquest will therefore be held. The adjourned, inouest on the body of Ellen Harriet Wilson, •waiting-room attendant at the Christchurcli Railway Station, whoso body was discovered on the beach at Sumner on Tuesday, was held before Mr H. W. Bishop, Coroner, yesterday morning. Evidence of identification was given, and a verdict of found drowned returned.
