PRESENTATION. I A public presentation is to be made to Mr G. M. Ryan, licensee of the Lyt clt-on Hotel for the past 14 rears. During' his 6tay in the port Mr Ryan has made many friends, who grc-atly regret that ho is about to leavt Lyttciton. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Before Captain- R. Hatclnrol] and Mr F. Knight l -, J.P.'s, Fiarl; Adama was proceeded ugainst by the truant oaicer for failing to send his eon regularly to school. Defendant was fined 2s and costs. COUNCIL MEETING POSTPONED. The fortnightly meeting of the I/yttolton Borough Council, which was not held on Monday evening owing to the majority of l the members having been unable to attend, will tako place on Monday next. THE PICTURES. "Paradise Garden," a romance starring Harold Lcckwood, was presented at the Harbour Light Picturo Theatre last evening, and will bo repeated to-night. very attractive programme will bo screened, - the leading picture being entitled "l'h« Jaguar's Claws," starring Sessuo Hayakawa, SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE. - About 40 seamen from ocean-going vessels in tho port visited tho Seamen's Institute , during the past week, and indulged in various forms of rccrcation. Two social -evening* c.nd throe Gospel services were held, all Being farily well attended. Four seamen joined tlio - ; Sailors* Christian Brotherhood. Throe paroels of books ltnd other literature were distributed on vessels, and three seamen in the Hospital were visited by the miesioner. Au "at home" held by the Lyttelton Ladies' Guild for the- purpose of raising funds for 1 sailors' comiorte, resulted in tho sum of £c ; being raised.
