WAUPARA HOSPITAL.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —In your paper of July 19th I noticed a letter on this subject, signed "Glenmark,*' wliich suggests that only Waikari people want the hospital. Now, at the first meeting called at Waikari to discuss the proposal to erect a bosSitai, I noticed several Glenmark resients, and some of them Bpoke on the
subject of the site, suggesting Waipara as suitable, on account of being tbe junction of the railways in the district affect pel. But none of them made any objection to the proposal to erc-it a hospital, and the said proposal was carried practically unanimously, lb seems to mo that nearly all your correspondents on the. subject have been so busy airing their own porsonal grievances that they have lost sight of the real object. Put in a nutshell, it is this For years this district has paid a largo sum. up to £2300 per annum, to the Hospital lioard. For this we have received practically nothing. Now. by paying a comparatively small sum additionally per annum wo can have a small hospital and maternity home in the district. Surely this is I a good* proposition. Wc are, at any rate, getting something instead of nothing for our money. With regard 10 the site, Waikori was pickcd as being thf most central and most convenient, with a docior residing close at hand. Tho first part iif "Glenmark's" lettpr is certainly to the mark. A lot' of correspondence has appeared in your columns and very little good has resulted. Finally, if "Glenmark" and others would refrain from personal]'t.'co-, j it would cause less heart-burning, and facilitate a better understanding between the different parts of tho county. —Yours, etc., E. WISHART. Waikari, July 20th, 1918.
