The Lady Editor will be pleased to receive for publication in the "Women's Corner" items of social or personal news. Such items should be fully authenticated, and engagement notices must benr the signatures of both parties. Correspondence is invited on any matters affecting, or of interest to, women. Great interest is being taken in a dance and bridge party which is to bo held in the Art Gallery during raco week in aid of the Prisoners of War Fund. The function is in tho hands of a committee consisting of Mcsdames Walter Moore, Henry "Wood, Henry Cotterill, D. Fox, and Messrs George ,Aitken and Heatheote Helmoro. A Press Association telegram from Thames announces the deatn of Mrs iUcCuliough, wife of Mr William MoCuilough, proprietor of the Thames "Star." Tho late Mrs McCullough, who had been in failing cealth lor some time, was in her sixty-fifth year. She was the daughter of the late Mr William JSrrington, a well-known engineer in tho early days, who' went to Thames to erect the ''llig Pump." ' She resided in Auckland for many years, and took part in many philanthropic works, and her genial disposition and kindly nature endeared her to many friends. Three sons (Messrs Frank and Roy, of Thames, and Jack, who is in tho engineering profession in America) and one daughter (Mrs Chambers, whoso husband is at the front) are left to mourn their loss. The engagement is announced of Lance-Corporal Basil Trim (Main Body), now in France, and son of Mr J. W. Trim, of Wellington, to Mile. Sylvio Descamps, fourth daughter of M. JDcscamps, late of Hazebrouck, France. Owing to the German advance, Mile. Descamps's family had to leave their home at Hazebrouck, and are now residing in Dollon, South of France. The Hinemoa Ladies' Amateur Swimming Club has decided to postpone its sale of goods in aid of tho Lady Liverpool Trench Comforts Fund until August 13th. The cooking competition in connexion with the stall will take place on that date. On Sunday there passed away, in tho person of Mrs Elizabeth Forrester, a lady who for nearly 30 years has been resident in Oamaru. Tho late Mrs Forrester was born in Glasgow and, with her husband, the late Mr Tiiomas Forrester, arrived in New Zealand in 1861, and after living in Dunedin for nine years, moved to Oamaru. The doceasod lady, during her long residence in Oamaru, took an active part in all matters of local interest to Oamaru institutions and the community generally, by whom she was held in tho highest esteem.

Scotch Broth. —Required: Three quarts of vegetable stock or water, a gill of well-soaked butter-beans, half a gill of raw rice, one small cabbage, small head of celery, four ounces each of carrot, turnip, or swedes, and. onion, two tablcspoonfuls of choppcd parsley, half a teaspoonful of powdered herbs; seasoning. Put the stock into a pail, add tho soaked beans 'and tho water used for soaking if ifc is not absorbed,, the herbs, the washed rice, finely shredded cabbage, chopped celery and onion, half tho carrot, all tho turnip cut in smallish cubes, and the rest of the carrot grated or passed through a mincing-machino. Add a little salt and boil for about three hours, or till the beans are soft. Then serve in a hot tureen with the parsley and necessary seasoning added at the last.
