THE LATE MR CHARLES BEGG.

Speaking at St. Michael's Church on Sunday the Vicar said: —As a congregation we suffered a terribjo ffow last week. Charles Dowie Begg, our organist, was killed in a collision while riding his motor-cycle. Personally, I feci it is a heavy loss, for he was over ready to do anything I wished, and there was never at any time a disagreement between us. The choir will miss him. • Ho took groat pains with the boys and the adult members. His heart was plainly in his work. It seemed to mo that he was an electrical engineer to get a living, but that ho was a musician to koep his soul alive. HoV lie improved during tho year in which ho was with us you all know. Ho entered into the ways and music of fho church, with greatscarnestness and ability. His music b oca me more and more reverent and. devotion.il. Wo shall miss him very much. You will like to know that he was buried at Dunodin by Mr Fitchctt, the vicar of St. John's, and the son of Dean Fitchott. He has a brother who is organist at St. John's, Dunedin.'There in the snow they laid liim to rest "in sure and certain hope of tlio resurrection." "We feel great sympathy for his wife and child. During this service we bless God's Holy Name for all His servants departed this life, in His faith and fear, and we ask for grace that we may follow their good examples. Kindness and gentleness were Tory .shining characteristics of our dearfriend. I never heard him say an unkind thing. and I never saw his accustomed fijntleness of manner give way to roughness. Now, kindness of speech is not too common in Christchurch, and as I have often Mid, the war will make us harder and coarser and more callous unless tvo are on our guard. Therefore, perhaps our intention Mtis morning, as we offer the Holy Sacrifice, could not be better than this—that, we may have more of tK< kindness of gentleness of manner of the servant of God now departed—Charles Dowie Begg.
