The Minister of Defence hag decidcd, in the interests of the Union, to have the order revoked excluding Messrs W. T. Young and Howell, of the Seamen's Union, from shippins and wharves in Wellington. Tho Tc Anati will leave Auckland 10-day for Lyttclton direct, and the Corinna is expected here on Saturday from Dunedin and Timaru. The Monowai v.-ill arrive here from Dunodin to-morrow, and will sail 10-morrcw evening for Wellington. The Orepuki will arrive at Lyttelton tonight, and on completing here will return lo the West Coast. The Breeze will probably arrive here tomorrow from northern ports, and will sail lator for Dunedin and Timaru. PASSENGERS FROM AUSTRALIA. Says the Sydney "Shipping List" of the 11th January:—"lt is reported in shipping circles that the Holyman line of steamers will be augmented at an early date by the Karamu, a steamer of 934 tons, owned by the Union Steam Ship Company, and at present engaged on the New Zealand coast." DEATH OF CAPTAIN MELLO. Captain P. E. Mello, of the Commonwealth end Dominion Line, died' in England recently. He was well known in New Zealand, having traded here for many years. ±Ie first visited the Dominion as a junior officer, and two of the steamers of which ho wa.3 master were the Niwaru and Marerc. He last visited New Zealand a year ago. A NEW TYPE OF VESSEL. Says "Syren and Shipping" . of the . 21st November:—There arc now on the ways at the Ca.mcron-Gcnoa shipyard four ships, two of which arc being built for the 'British Government, according to plans prepared by the Imperial Munitions Board l . They wul he steam schooners, and will here no sii's. The. company has undertaken to build four of the steam schooners for the British Government, and has tho option to build two additional ones.
