SOLDIERS' TOBACCO FUND. The Mayor of Lyttelton, Mr W. T. Lester, spent a busy afternoon yesterday collecting for the Overseas Club's Tobacco Fund for soldiers at the front. The portites responded liberally, £3 10s in shilling subscriptions being collected during the afternoon. It is anticipated that a substantial amount will "be gathered for tho fund. JUVENILE COURT. The lad who was arrested by Dotective Quarterraain on Wednesday for not being under proper control, appeared at tho Juvenilt Court yesterday afternoon, before Captain J. A. H. Marciel, J.P. The polioc having telegraphed to the lad's parents in Wellington, and no reply having been received, ii was decided to remand the case until next Thursday. THE PICTURES. "The Prison Without Walls," a film starring Wallace Reid and Myrtle Stedman. was presented yesterday afternoon and last evening at the Harbour Light Pioiure Theatre for the last time.' Th© chief picture to be shown to-night will be a. drama, "The Social Leper," a story told in a strange and entirely new way. SALVATION ARMY. A social gathering of the soldierß of the Salvation Army ai Lyttelton took place in the barracks la-st evening, to bid farewell to Cadet L. Allan, who has been a soldier in the loral corps for a number of years. Tho cadet was tho recipient of a handsome travelling bag from the soldiers, a-nd a fountain ppu from tho scholars of the Sunday School in connexion -with the local corns. Cadet Allan has been a teacher and record sergeant in tho Sunday School for some time past, and will leave Lyttelton on Wednesday next for the Salvation Army's training college at Wellington. Captain and Mrs Hewson, who have been stationed with the Lyttelton Salvation Army Corps for tho past twelve months, have received instructions to proceed to Opotihi.
