CORRESPONDENCE.
Owing to the pressure* upon our space we are compelled to summarise a number of letters received from correspondents, instead of printing them in full. "J.L;W." recalls some early history in connexion with the Waimakariri Harbour Act, and hopos, "after fifty years of waiting, to witness the completion of an important public work for North Canterbury." "Frugality," referring to another correspondent's complaint concerning the allocation of £500 to restore the Mackenzie cairn, says that the highsalaried officials of the Stat© gobble up the country's money. "St. Albans" complains of a barking collie in the neighbourhood of Springfield road, ancl makes an appeal to the good feelings of the owners of such dogs. "Gratis Dictum" wishes to know whether Lord Kitchener's forecast of the duration of the war has already proved wrong. fit has not proved wrong. Lord Kitchener did not name a time limit.] "Ex-letter Carricr"_ says that the first postmaster at Kaiapoi -was not Mr J. H. Sheath, but Mr Geo. O. Black. "Another Housewife" approves of the milk block system, and would favour the extension of tho system to butchers and bakers. "Joseph Geary" writes in condemnation of the recent story of angels appearing in a country district in England. "Nurse" supports another correspondent's complaint concerning "the hideous noises made by motor-cyclists." j
