HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Lyttelton Harbour Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs A. Ivaye (chairman), J. Storry, S. K. Sleigh, J. J. Graham, "W. J. "Walter, Geo. Scott, H. B. Sorcnsen, F. Horrcll, E. J. Howard, T. D. Boag, T. A. Blacklcy. Hon. J'. Moore, .L.C., aud l)r. H. T. J. Thackcr, M.P. The engineer reported that on October 2-lth, at the reclamation work, a settlement occurred opposite the lower end of the now wharf for a length of about 200 feet. The wall sunk about 10 feet, carrying the staging down with it and forced the mud bottom outside to such an extent that it lifted the lower 501't of the new wharf lOffc out of the water, moved it slightly out of line, and reduced the depth from ] 7 feet to G feet at low water. On the 'Jnd iust. a further settlement <ecurrecl. extending back another 100: t towards Baker's Point, aud further moving the new wharf so out of line that it cannot bo further used for discharging spoil until repaired. The Sailors' Homo Committee's report, which was adopted, showed a balance to credit of £1 9s 2d. During September the average number of boarders per day was 10. A cable message was received reporting the sale of tho Board's boilers now in Glasgow for £4000; the Board in Februarv last authorised the sale at C3ooo. The harbourmaster reporteil that two small fires had been discovered on vessels at tho wharf. He ascribed the cause to smokers carelessly throwing lighted matches about. Captain Cameron, of the Mararoa. wrote asking that the white patch on Oodley Head bo repainted. Tho »iarbourniaster recommended that the work be. done when the calm autumn weather sets in.
