♦ The monthly meeting of the commit toft of the Canterbury .Sweet Pea and Carnation bociety waa held on Tuesday cvomrg, Mr W. Jenkins presiding, over a full attendance. Details of tlie forthcoming Patriotic Sweet Pea Show, which is to be held on December 27th on the Market Reserve, were completed. One of the special features of the show again this vear is the garden competition. J.ne venture w&fl 60 successful lust year that the committee have made the scopa wider thn vear and have, made two classcs, one lor i-acras and one for i-acres. TUcy have also made another addition, and included a a tree, competition, whereby any block in a street I not more than 16 chains in length, can compete. Special money prises have been oSerel bv Mr J. Montgomery, tbo Ckristchurch Keautifying Society, and a special prize has been offered by Miss Tabort for tho lady who keeps the best vegetable garden. Judging from the amount of enquiries regarding tho garden competitions that the- committee ha> received already, it is expcctcd that the result will largely exceed anything the society expected when tho idea waa first conceived by them five years ago.
