Smokers are teing warned bv tho Ministry of Finance that the day is coming when they can have only a fixed allowance of popular brands of tobacco and cigarettes (says a Paris message of August 25th). The supply is again deficient. and it ir, impossible to increase the output. The chief cause of the trouble is the great increase in consumption since the war. The first haif of 1917 compared with 1910 shows an increase of 1,133,000 pounds of cigarettes and 13,492,600 pounds of smoking tobacco.
