COUNTY COUNCILS.
EYRE. At the last meeting of the Eyre County Council there were present—Mr Richard Evans (in the. chair), Cre. Dixon, Rich. Mcintosh, and Horrell. Letters were read from the Kaiapoi Borough Council asking tho Council to pay half cost of the electric street lights on boundary roads. It was resolved that Crs. Evans and Rich report oil the matter. It was resolved that a circular be sent out with rato notices asking occupiers of land to keep down tho fences at corners of roads that are dangerous. It was agreed that Air F. Kimber be paid half the cost of cleaning out the drain on Whito'e road, adjoining his property. It was decided that if persons persisted in carting shinglo out of the main drain when the roads were wet, the Council would pass a heavy traffic by-!aw to deal with the matter. It was resolved that th-e Council's solicitor search tho titles of land abutting on the Kaikanui creek to find out if there was a roadway along it. It waa agreed that tho boundary road be graded near Mr Denis Chapman's; that tenders be called for carting shingle on the North road, from tho Empire bridge to the county boundary; that Mr M. Maindonald be allowed to haul with traction engine in winter months only to tho nearest railway station; that the Council meet tho District engineer at Eyreton to inspcct tho Waimaka<riri riv*r where encroaching. The Public Works Department. Electrical Branch, wrote that up to the present tho reticulation had cost £2T)4 3s. 2d. The following notice of motion was given: "That tho county strike a rate of M in the £ in tho Eyre Ridine. and id in the- £ in tho West Eyreton Pi-ding for the year ending March 31st, 1918." AMURI. At the monthly meeting of tho Amuri County Council there were present—Crs, M. Betheil, H. It. Davison, B. Hampton, and K. Pettigrew. Leave of absence was asked for, and granted Crs. L. J. Pulley, G. Fulton, and F. S. Northcote. Mr J. H. McKie wrote drawing attention to tho bad state of tho street leading from the Waiau township lo his house. It was decided to give the adjoining owners notice to clear goree off tho street before any further action was taken. Mrs F. A. Benn applied for, and was granted, a renewal of heir slaughterhouse liconao at Haamer. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote asking if the Council, from a patriotic point of view, would provide burial plots free of cost for members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and also if tho Council would permit the erection of suitable headstones or memorials by the Government. .As the Council did not control any cemetery in tlie county it was decided to send a copy of iae letter' to each Cemetery Board in the disTho resolution applying for an overdraft of £3000 from the Union Bank of Australia •was confirmed. Tho Under-Secretary, Public Works Department, forwarded copy of an_ Order-in-•Council declaring all tho roads in the Culvcrden township to bo county roads, in terms of «üb-seotion (3) of section 103 of the Publio Works Act, 19C8. The resolutions striking the general _ and Waian township river protection district rates were confirmed. The caretaker of the- water racne renorted that 23 gate® were required to allow of easy and quick inspection. It was rceolved that gates be put up as soon as possible.
