ALIENS IN OUR MIDST.
to tub sorros or "the pbiss." Sir, —It was with relief that I read in this morning's "Pross" that the people of Auckland were beginning to look with approhonsion -on the large alien population in their midst, feeling that it was likely to bo a menace to society in the future, as in timo these aliens will bo in tho majority. I dunapprove utterly, however, of the suggestion that they should be conscripted and sont to the front with our reinforcements, thus causing danger to their comrades in arms, for if a man is worth his salt, he will never be a traitor to his own country, but I do think that this matter should bo looked into very seriously by the Government. Perhaps you oould toll me, Mr Editor, whether tho report is correct, that one of theso aliens was arrested a few weeks ago in one of our leading hotels in Christchurch, and why it was not made public? While on this subjoct I may say it is also reported that many of these aliens hold responsible positions in our midst; as one who has lost many relatives in this war, I pro- i tfst a.scainst onr sons sacrificing tneir lives to help keep Germans in fat billets and in possession of fine farms in the _ North Island. At present we aro living in a fool's paradise, but I say emphatically there is a good deal that needs setting to right in our midst as regards this matter. —Tours, itc., ANTI-ALIEN. , July 16th. I
