A meeting of the Sumner Send Off and Reception Committee was held on Saturday - evening, when Mr A. C. Wilson presided. The report. of the lost send off function was received and considered highly satisfactory. It was decided to appeal to the residents for • financial support for the purpose of providing presentations foi those Sumner boys who may be leaving for the front. Arrangements were made to tender a presentation and farewell -to Corporal F. Short, who is now down on ' final leave, \ SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE. :■ A jumble and produce. 6ale, in aid of the ' funds of the Seamen's Institute, was open- . Ed at liyttelton on Saturday by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), who said that the sale deserved generous patronage, considering its . worthy object. Those who had charge of the arrangements had worked hard to make the sale a success. Ho hoped that all present would remember that the Institute was catering for the welfare of our noble seamen, to whom we owed our present freedom. He thea" declared tho sale open.
