An Italian official message states: — "There is increased artillery activity on some sectors. "We repulsed attacks in the region of Mount Yodice and southward of Craziona and northward of Tivoli. "Wo mado a, surprise attack southward of Castagnavizza, and on the Carso Plateau, and advanced our lino 400 metres on a two kilometres front. CHAINED TO GUNS. AUSTRIAN PRISONERS' w STATEMENTS. ROME, Juno 1. The ""Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at Montfalcone states that the pftrumoured enemy practice of padlocking machine-gunners to the guns has been proved. On the slopes of Hermada gunners were found chained by tho ankle to the tripod, and by the waist to the gun-barrel. Prisoners assert that the idea is to prevent retreating gunners from abandoning tho guns, but it is suggested that tho Austrians aro employing Roumanians as gunners.
