SUMNER RED CROSS.
A meeting of tho Sumner Branch of tho Rsd Crcsa Committee was held yesterday afternoon in tlie council room, when Mrs J. B. Laurenson presided over a gOOd attendCorrespondence was icccivcd from Mrs Bovlo regarding tho cost o£ the "Red Cros3 Record." The sum of £2 2s was voted to the magazine. A letter wag received from tho eecretary of the Sumner Volunteer l'iro Brigade, stating that they had decided to give 50 p?r cent, of tho rosulte of tho forthcoming social to the Sumner brajich of the Kcd Cross Society, and asking tho ladies' assistance with tlie catering. It was resolved to form a ladies' committee, and to state that they would gladly co-operate in providing a collection of cakes. . The secretary stated that subscriptions amounting to i'll ISs lid had been handed ;n. Donations in kind v.'ero ixceivccl as follows:—Mis Thorpe, 4 slippers; Miss Riordan 5 gifts. Tho total receipts' from the Patriotic Club wero £12 6s lid, and from tho Gftla Committee £3G 2s lOd. It was decided to placc tho sum of £35 to tho account of tho Central Depot for transmission Homo with their next grant. It was decidcd to complete all work now on hand, and on account of transport difficulties it was arranged to consult the Central Depot before commencing fr-eeh work, Mrs W. G. Roberts to furnish a report.
Mrs J. B. I/aurenson, as retiring Mayoress, vacated the chair in favour of the Mayoress, Mrs J. Barr, and in doing no expressed her Uianks for tho courtesy and help she _ had at all times received from the committee. Her resignation was received with regret, and a. hearty vote of thanks wag accorded her. A spccial vote of thanks was. passed to the Patriotio Club for their concert in aid pf tho fund-3.
