POSITION OF THE SENATE. SYDNEY PAPER'S VIEW. (By Cable—Prew* Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 7. The latest returns placo the Political Labour League Senate bunch ahead in Queensland. v Mr AVebster, Postmaster-General, is now leading by a fair margin, but Mr Glynn, Minister of liome Affairs, is having a hard fight, being over 500 behind his opponent. The "Sydney Morning Herald" makes the position in the Houso of Representatives on the present figures as follows: — Nationalists ... ••• 44 P.L.L. 24 Doub'ful ... 7 The morning papers claim that the whole vote represents a groat Nationalists' victory. The "Sydney Morning Herald" says the vote shows conclusively that the people have fully made up their minds on four material points: — Firstly, to see the -war through to the bitter end; Secondly, a. refusal to be bluffed over the conscription issue; Thirdly, an objection to Caucus rule: Fourthly, antipathy to the imported doctrines of tho I.W.W. FURTHER RETURNS. EX-MINISTERS BEATEN. (Received May 7 th, 6 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 7. The latest election returns show that Mr A. Griffith, an ex-State Minister, failed in an attempt to win tho Newcastle seat for tho Nationalists. Mr W. G. Spence, ex-Postmaster-General, appears to have lost the Darling seat, to tho Political Labour League candidate. Mr King O'Malley and Mr Alfred Mahon. two ex-Federal Ministers, have probably been beaten by tho Nationalists. THE .SENATE VOTE. NATIONALISTS LEADING EVERYWHERE. (Received May 7th, 10.10 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 7. The latest Queensland returns place the Ministerial Sennte two ahead. The whole of the eighteen Nationalist Senate candidates are now leading.
