The Ingle wood correspondent of the "Taranaki Herald" writes: A huge eel, measuring oft 2in in length and 19 Jin jn circumference,'and weighing 281b, was caught in the Ngatoro creek last Friday. Some fish! I may mention in the same breath that a farmer near grew potato .plants last year with stems 9ft long and of the thickness of a pit-chfork handle! This sounds rather ''tall," but was verified by many who saw the crop, grown from a new brand of seed potatoes costing -sbd a ]b and guaranteed practically blightnroof. Needless to say. the stems were not upright, but trailed along the "•round; otherwise the plants mipht have been handy for shelter for stock.
