COUNTY COUNCILS.

EYRE. At tho annual meeting of the Eyre County Council Mr Richard Evans was elected chairman. At tko ordinary meeting there were £ resent Mr H. Evans (in tlie chair), Messrs lixon, Horrell, and Rich. It was resolved that tho chairman tako proceedings against Rico Bros, for non-com-pliance with notice to clear out drain on Grigs road, adjoining their property. In reply to the Board of Agriculture it was decided to report that the following- were tho eix worst weeds: —Fathen, loco, CaJiforuian thistle, shepherd's purse, couch grass, and tares, and that cultivation was the beat way to eradicate them on arable lands. It was resolved that G. Smith and T\ L. Wright bo given notice to clear out watercourse that Jiad been ploughed in on part section 42G, corner of Island and Neave'o road. It was decided to give Joseph Lynskey notice to clear out creek within fourteen days, also to call tenders to clean out Burgess's creek from Lynskey's boundary to the bridge. Mr Rich was authorised to get drain running from Wilson's ford cleaned out ho as to reduce hehjht of water at ford. Ijt was resolved that all tenants of thsj Council owing twelve months* rent and over should ha written to by tho Council's solicitor, and failing ■payment, forthwith, to be sued, TAWEBA. At tho adjourned annual meeting of the Tawera County Council there wcro present — Messrs Seymour, Evans, Manson, O'Shaughnessy, and Rutledge. Mr Jas. Seymour was re-elected chairman. The balance-sheet for tho past half-year was read and adopted, subject to audit. The ordinary meeting was then held, tho eame members being present. Correspondence was read from th© president of the Board of Agriculture, asking for information as to the six worst noxious weeds in tho county. It was decided to reply that this being mostly a pastoral county, there were not many noxious weeds, blackberry being tho most prominent, but this was kept in check by cutting. A circular quoting tho PTico of dog collars was received from Messrs Triggo and Denton, and the clerk was instructed to order a supply, RANGIORA. A special meeting of tho Rangiora- County Council was hold yesterday. There were present—Messrs P. Horrell (chairman), W. Stalker, H. Tallott, H. Garrett, L. "W. Campion, and A. Mcintosh. The election of chairman for tho ensuing year resulted in the re-election of Mr 1". Horrell. Cr Horrell thanked the members for the support which they had given him in tho past, and for the confidence which they had I expressed by re-electing him. On tho recommendation of the sub-com-mittee appointed to inspect Edwards's road, at Woodend, it was decided to go on with the proposed work. It was decided to hold the nest meeting on January 6th. An offer was received from Mr G. Thornley of the use of hi 3 shingle trucks free of charge, on condition that the Council puts them in order-—Consideration of the matter wsi3 deferred till next meeting. A donation of two guineas was made to the Southbrook Fire Brigade funds. The sum of £23 was voted to tho fund for tho relief of tho children of Belgium. An enquiry was received from the Board of Agriculture as to tho six worst weeds in tho district, and it was decided that the worst were: Californian thistle, oxeyc daisy, yarr, loco, and blackberry. It was decided that the war bonus of 13 per day granted at the last meeting should apply to all workmen employed by the Council. The disposal of the drayman's houee at "Woodend was left in tho hands of Messrs Horrell, Stalker, and tho clerk. Mr R. Bay was appointed pound-keeper at Woodend. Mr J. I. Doggetta's offer of £10 and £15 for the right of cutting the cocksfoot on the roads of tho Rangiora and Cust ridings respectively, was accepted, and he was instructed to impound all stock found grazing on the roads on which cocksfoot is growing. It was decided that instructions be given to the ranger to prosecute all offenders against the 6tock-wandering by-law, after having given two warnings within six months. The balance-sheet for the half-year ended September 30th was adopted. There was a debit balance on General Account of £30 17s lOd, on the Kangiora Riding Account of £772 17a Id, and on the Cust Riding Account of £230 17s 5d.. Tho receipts for tho month were reported to be £143 lis Id leaving a debit balance of , £1425 Is Gd. OXFORD. The Oxford County Council met on Tuesday. Present —Messrs A. Baxter (chairman), H. Campbell, J. Cross, D. Hawke, J. McCormack, and J. Wells. i The water-race rangers reported that the Doctor's pond was leaking, a full race running in and none coming out. The same applied to a pond on Messrs Wright Bros.' property.—lt was resolved that tho supplies •be cut off, loop races to be allowed if required. It was resolved to purchase birds' egg* and heads—blackbirds and thrushes at 3d, and Bmall birds at 2d per dozen —and thai tenders bo called for the labour of putting in culvert at the ford on McGrath's road. Councillors Yt'ells and Hawke reported on an inspection of the Domain road, about which a complaint was received last month of damago caused to the road by Mr Luere having ploughed across it. Their opinior was that no damage whatever had beer done. A few boulders nad been scratched up, which Mr Luers had thrown off, but on the other hand, nearly all the manuka had been destroyed, and the road was now practically ready for grading without requiring to be ploughed It was resolved to apply to the La-rjil I Board to put in two culverts on the to* of track in R.S. 367G9, and to get the grajs- [ on tho footpaths and side-channels cut bj grass-mower. Thompson, Chief Drainage Engineer, on th I proposed water schema from the Waimakarir I river.—lt was resolved to call a public meet ing on the 21st inst. to consider the report.

Messrs Cooper Bros, applied for permission to erect telephone poles between Ngakuroa and Dagnum.—Granted, provided they are placed close to the fences. It wa3 decided to suggest to the District Railways Engineer the placing of a bevelled plank at each end of the Wnimakariri Gorge bridge. Tho Board of Agriculture aeked for the names of the six worst noxious weeds, and tho best methods of eradication—The Council considered they were all hud, and Crown Lands wcro as badly affected with them as freehold land. In the. Council's opinion, a staff engaged in compiling such statistics at the present time would be much better employed at tho front, in place of farm hands, who were c-ontinuallv boing cent away.
