The death is announced of Mr Archi.fcold, President of tho Standard Oil .. Company. An old and highly-respected resident »f Auckland, Mr William Garrett, sen., . Jied at his residence in Brixton road. . Monnt Eden, on Sunday. The late Mr Garrett, who was 66 years of age, was anativo of County Cavan. Ireland. He had been a resident of tho Auckland for the past 36 years, he havv.iag arrived in the Lady Jocelyn as a • Member of the party of settlers wJio came out under Mr G. Vesey Stewart's katik'ati settlement scheme. Ho was Goycrnmentr valuer for some years. He resigned hisC position in the Government Service some years ago. and entered \ into business in Auckland as a land and .' estate ageiit. M r Garrett' leaves a •*wow and (five sons and five daughters. The eldest son is Mr W. Garrett, • Auckland manager for Messrs Mason, ■ otruthers and Co. Mr Alexander Gar*ett, of Sydney, is another son. The other three sons have enlisted. Sergt. •jack Garrett, a member of the Austra- • ban Light Horse, is now at the front. ,- "d Bombardier J. T. Garrett and Sergt. Jt. Garrett are in training as Members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. - The death occurred at Tikorangi, Taranaki, on Saturday of Mr Richard Hicks, at the ripe old age of 99 years. ; The late Mr Hicks, together with his < *'ue and family, came out to New Zealand from Devonshire in the seventies, and soon afterwards he took up land at Tikorangi. He had resided in the district ever since.
