APPOINTMENT URGED

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)

DUNEDIN. December 6. A meeting was held to-day ? under the auspices of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, to consider the need for the appointment of women police. About one hundred people were present, the majority "'being ladies. Several speakers strongly supported the proposal to appoint women police, and a motion was carried urging the -Minister of Justice to immediately appoint women police. A motion was carried urging the appointment in every centre of women as protectors and advisers of young women and children, with the authority and standing of a justice of the peace, such protectors to be authorised to attend all Courts in cases where a woman or child is concerned, and to intervene if it is considered desirable.
