THE WAGES QUESTION". "With reference to the matter of coloured labour in New Zealand, a father letter has been sent by Mr Hiram Hunter, secretary of the United Federation of Labour, to tliq Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. G. W, Russell. .Mr Hunter <vroto as follows : — "I have tho honour, by direction of the United Federation of Labour, to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the 27th ultimo, conveying the information asked i'or in relation to the number of Hindoo arrivals in the dominion during the past three years. In reply thereto I have been directed to oonvev the thanks of the National Executive for the said information, and to urge you to keep in touch with this matter, "and take steps to ensure that all immigrants shall receive the same rate of wages and working conditions that are obtainable by Europeans. If employers are allowed to omolov coloured labour at- a lower rate than other workers are prepared to accept, there wil] soon be trouble of _ a very serious character in the industrial life'of Australasia/'
