PLANE TREES AND CANCER.
- « .— A ladv at Claygate, Surrey, has started the novel theory that plane trees, with which London's streets are lined, produce cancer. She asked the Esher Council on that ground to cut down a plane tree in front of #er house. On enquiry, it appeared that at three houses in the district persons had died of cancer. In all three cases therewas a plane tree in front of the house. Hence her fear. The medical officer has inronued the Council thai the idea that plane trees produce canwr in human beings is unfounded. If such were the case London would he seething with, cancer. The Council, therefore, declined to cut down the tree.
