At the last' meeting ofthe Kowai County Council, there were' present—-Messrs G. A. (chairman), W. A. Nicholls, J. Itowc, and T. Hanna. .
The secretary of the Amberley Technical School applied for a grant towards tlio maintenance of the school. It was dccided to vote £2 2e.
Mr T. H. James asked for repairs to Mewcomb's and Broadfoot'a roads.—The clerk to inspeot and report.
The Mt. Hntfc Road Board applied for a copy of 'the Council's heavy traffic by-laws. —Forwarded.
The ohairman of the Leithfield School Committee applied for shingle/for the. footpaib between the gate and' the school. It was dccided to reply that the Council could li'-t do any work off the road-line, but that the committee couIS obtain shingle from the Council's pit. The Sef ton-Ashley Drainage Board applied for permission to erect an embankii""nt arrows Topping road, opposite Mr Pe trie's ■ fiKiu. Permission was granted, on condition that an outlet was made for etorra water lowing off the road, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the surveyor.
Mr G-. L. Stead wrote complaining of wandering horses on the ronde. The chairman reported the> appointment of Mr J. Lennox as ranger. It wae decided to take steps to sell sections at Northport, on which no zate9 have been received for years. _ • Mr Rowe moved a special resolution declaring, by way of special order, that the North road (with the exception of that portion of the road lying within _ tlie boundary of the Amberley Towii District), from the Lower Ashley bridge to the Waipara liver, tiie upper Sefcon-A»hl-»y road, Seftcm-BaJcairn road. Railway Reserve road, and La.wcoc3c's road, running from Boundary road on. the west- through Ashley, Sefton, and Balcaim to the bortmdary of the Amberley Town District, and- all bridges established and used in connexion with'euch roads shall be main roads, and that the coot of constructing and maintaining the same ehall be paid out of the general rates of the county. The motion was. seconded by Mr Hanna, and carried.
Tho clerk was inetruclod to inform the branches of the County Red Cross and Patriotic Fund that the fund was drawing to a cloee, and that each, branch, would br.ve to make its own financial arraiiscments for carrying on. the work it tad ir. hand. A cheque for £1 was received, being the proceeds of the sale of one horse, on account of Mr "W. J. Haima, who gave the amount to the County Red Cross Fund. The clmirman referred to the satisfactory financial position' of the' Council, and said that the position waa largely due to the clerk and surveyor (Mr J. FitzPatrick) for the care cxercised over the Council's income and expenditure, and he moved that a hearty yote of thanks be accorded to Mr FrtxPatrick for the efficient way in which h® had carried out his duties as clerk and surveyor to the Council for the past' year. The motion was seconded by Mr Roto, and carried unanimously.
