EXECUTIVE MEETING.

• >A mooting' of the Euwutiv© Committee of the Christchurch Branch of the Overseas Club was held yesterday afternoon. Dr. Jennings presiding. It was resolved to sell postcards with portraits of Admirals of tho British Na-vy and Genera's of the British Army <m Navy Day.

Tho president suggested that they should raiso funds for the Aeroplane Fund by means of a cryptogram scheme by which prizes say, £1, £2, up to £10, totalling £55, should bo 'given for the first ten solutions of the enigma. He pointed out how in "The Gold Bug" of Edgar Allan Poe, tho cryptogramio idea waa worked out. The idea was taken up with enthusiasm, and. on tho motion of Mr Thompson, seconded bv Mr Colline, it was adopted.

The Mayor and the chairman wero appointed a committee to deal with tho devising of the cryptic sentence, and an advertising" committee was appointed. The financial statement read by th». secretary (Mr T.- LI. Charters) was regarded as moat satisfactory.

It was mentioned that there w&9 a rumour current in the city that ''the club sent its gifts and parcels only to its own members. This, said Mr Moeley, who brought tho matter up, was not a fact. The club was only too willing to 6end present* to any specified officer or man of tho British foroee, or for the matter of that, to onyono in_ the Allied forces, or any nurse or Army Service man. Iu this rcspect, the club took no count of its own members, but was willing to serve all.
