PROGRESS IN TRANSYLVANIA

A Roumanian official message says: —

"We continued our advance on the northern and north-western fronts. Three towns have been occupied.

"Branshill is in our possession after frequently changing hands."

THE GERMAN REPORT,

LONDON, September 17

A German communique states: —

"Strong forces, attacking under the Archduke Karl, upon the Marajowka, pressed back the Roumanians advancing against the Kokel Gection on both sides of Szekel-Udvarhely."

Szekcly-Udvarhely is a fairly important town east of Maros Vasarhely. It lies in the valley of tho Great Kokel, and is the capital of the county of Udvarhely, and has a population of some 7000 people. It is about 40 miles from the nearest point of the Roumanian border. AUSTRIAN THREATS. < BERNE, September 17. A wireless message from Budapest states that Count Tiszs has given the Opposition reassuring promises that the Roumanians will bo driven, out of Transylvania, as the Austrians and their allies have decided to devote every spare man to crushing Roumania. IN THE DOBRUDJA. ALLIED LINE WITHDRAWN.

(Received September 18th, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, September 18.

Mr Braun, "Tho Times" correspondent at tho Roumanian headquarters, states that the Russians and Roumanians are falling back in the Dobrudja, and taking up strong positions at Rasova, ten miles south of ' Cernavoda, where there is the only bridge across the Danube, and at Tuzla, twelve miles south of Constanza.

Tho lino indicated is south of and parallel with the railway running from Constanza to Cernavoda on tho Danube.

THE GERMAN CLAIM,

LONDON, September 17. A German communique says: — "General von Mackcnsen's pursuit in the Dobrudja continues."

(Received September 19th. 1.5 a.m.) LONDON, September 18.

Mr Braun, the correspondent of "The Times," writinc on September 17th, says that the Roumanians continue, to advance in Transylvania, breaking the Austrian and German resistance. They have occupied Fogoras, making prisoner 800 men.
