THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIP
• The Professorial Board of Canterbury . College, at it s meeting last week, resolved to accede to ,tne request of ine Tocnnical Cbiicgo that it sno-ud inaugurate classes suited to the requirements of Tecnnical College students m physiology, bacteriology, and physical science as applied to uomestic science. The Board also received the application of R. J. Richards, a senior scnolar in classics, for nomination as Rhodes /Scholar for 1916, and his name was handed on, in the usual way, to the College Students' Association for their consideration and report to tho Board on qualifications 2 and 3, (Method of Selection, Rhodes Scholarship Regulations), that is to say his fondnes s for ind success in ( manly out-door sports, ind his qualities of manhood, truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness, and fellowship. When his fellow-students have reported on these qualifications the Board judges of his qualifications' as a whole, and makes the final decision as to his nomination.'
Tho Board also decided that steps should bp taken with a view to procuring, if possible, last year's Rhodos Scholarship, now vacant through tho death of: the holder, Lieutenant Athol Hudson, at tho front, for Rifleman A. 0. Ponder, a distinguished student of tho College, who was second on tho list in last year's election* and is now at the front.
