The annual report stated that twoniy-two clubs B«ro now afiiliated to the Centre with a, total membership of 11)39. Tho credit balance—was £126 4s 2d. As the Sonth Island Tournament would bo held in Dunedin nexy eoaeon, Christchurch would only have tho -csnal Easier Tournament, which, it was trusted, vrould be a big success. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. odoers were elected ae> follows:—President, Mr A. Dickson; vice-president, Mr A. H. Bourn; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr D. E. Wood; hon. auditor, Mr H. Kiilncr; | committee, Messrs C Taylor and John Brown. ~* » It was decided to nominate Messrs M. F. Bornett (Christchurch) and D. A. Morgan (Timaru) for seate on tho Council of the New Zealand Bowling Association. Mr A. H. Bourn inoved that pennant matches be held during tho coining eeason. Messrs H. Bur&on (Ijnwood), T. V. Ambrose (Rangiora), and J. "VV. Beanland (Edgcware) said their clubs supported the holding of pennant matches, largely cm the ground that it would lead to an improvement in play. Messrs -E. E. Daniels (Christchurch) and' M. F. Barnett (Canterbury) said their clubs opposed tho proposal, submitting that with Easter, South Island, and New Zealand tournaments, there were enough competitions to satisfy all, and, moreover, many members went along to the preen on a Saturday afternoon merely to have a friendly game. Mr J. Clarko (Opawa) stated that his club was opposed to the pennant matches. Mr Bourn, in reply, stated that the friend, ly match system was tried last year, and proved a ghastly failure. There was no keenness shown at all; it was lfko meat without salt. . The motion was lost by 9 votes to C. Mr E. C. Chegwin (Sydenham) moved that no inter-club matches bo arranged by the Centre. Mr D. E. "Wood said thnt i? tho clr.b3 wore goinrj to have only friendly matches, let the clubs arrange their own, as the matches arranged by the Centre last season proved to be a farce. Mr Beanland eaid that if this was tho attitude the Centre was going to take up, the sooner tho clubs withdrew their affiliation tho better. Mr Daniels said the home and homo mutches tho previous year were most enioy- . able. They did not want strenuous matches. Ho considered Mr "Wood's suggestion that tho olnbs arrange their own matches was n most desirable one. Other dolegatos euDported the motion. Mr C. Taylor' eaid the motion was s farce, and that ho thought was in the mind of the mover when he moved it. Mr Bourn contended that tbc Centre could instigate some form of friendly matcho-9. He moved, as an amendment: "That tin Executive bo instructed to promulgate n scheme of inter-club matches..and submit same to a fnturo meeting." The amendment was carried by 10 votes to 8 for the motion.
