THE LIEDERTAFEL.

ANNUAL MEETING

Tho thirty-fiTst annual meeting of tho Christchurch Liedertafel was held in the Carlton Cafe last evening, Mr Jame3 Jamieson (president) being in tie chair. There ■Was a very good attendance of mem bore.'

Tho report of the committed stated that fivo concerts had been given to subscribers during the eeason. The assistance of individual' members had been in great demand, and freely given to various patriotic movements in all parts of the province. Tie finances of the society were still feeling the effect of tbo war, and •the majority of resignations received during tho season had been on that account. Several members had volunteered for the front, and the com-4 mittee had decided to grant them loav© of absence until they returned. It had been decided at a special general meeting that the title of concerts should in future be "At homes" and "Smoke concerts." Inference, was made to tho regretted death of the lato Mr T. H. Baraett and the resignation of Mi A: "Worsley,; both members had done extremely valuable work for the Liedertafel. \ The balance-sheet showed that the receipts had-been £247- Go Id and the expenditure £234 12s 9d, the credit balance at tho bank being £12 13s 4d. The assets woro approximately £150 and the liabilities nil.

The president said that in view of the adverse circumstances under which the society had worked, he thought tho position was gratifying. He hoped that for the future members would do their best to get other members to join' tie society. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. -

Tho election of officers for the ensuing l year resulted as follows:—President, Mr J as. Jamieson; vice-president, Mr C. D: "Morris; secretary, Mr F. If. Meadows; conductor, Br. Bradshaw; committee, Messrs W. Broadhurst, W. G. Cookaon, S. Hawker, E. Hollow, and A. Millar.

On the motion of Mr A. Millar, it was decided that a letter should be eent to Mr A. Worsley expressing the regret of ihe Itiedertafel at his resignation and -the appreciation of .members of tho excellent work he had done far the society.

Mr Millar suggested that the committee should consider tho advisability of altering the concert night from Friday to some other night of the week. A motion to this effect was carried.

Mr W. Broadhuist spoke appreciatively of the work done by the lato Mr T. H. Barnett, and said that he thought eomo record should be placed on tho minutes referring! to his death.

It was decided to appoint Br. Manning as trustee in place of the lote Mr Harnett.

At the conclusion of the formal business, a social was held.
