BIRTHDAY HONOURS. LONDON, Juno 2. Thcro wore four thousand birthday military houours. Amongst the recipients was the Prince of "\Valcs, who received the Military Cross. (Received June 4th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Juno 3. The birthday honours include five new peers, twelve baronets, and thirtyone knights. The Order of Merit has been bestowed on Mr Balfour in recognition of his services in the field of philosophy and literature. MESSAGE FROM Ist (CANTERBURY) REGIMENT. In accordance with custom, tho officers of the Ist (Canterbury) llcgimcnt) sent the following cablegram of congratulation to his Majesty tho King:— "Please convey to his Majesty greetings from the Ist (Canterbury) Regiment, and sincere hopes for speedy victory to his armies and allies." The following reply was received on Saturday:— "Tho King thanks all ranks of the Ist (Canterbury) Regiment for their congratulations and good wishes, "which his Majesty much appreciates. —Starafordham.'' Tho King's Birthday passed off very quietly in Christchurch on Saturday.
