TIIE LATH LIEUTENANT J. S. RICHARDSON. The news of the death of Lieutenant J. Stcwart-Richardson, of the Coldstream Guards, which occurred the other day in France, came as a blow to his many friends in the Cambridge district, among whom lie was commonly known as "Jock" (says the Auckland "Star")- Ho lived with his uncle, Mr J. It. Stewart-Richardson, in Cambridge, for a period of about 12 years, and was a general favourite. He was a good sport, and followed tho hounds on every possible occasion, played polo and golf, could sing a good song, and was very popular with the ladies. Some years ago he went to Hawke's Bay, and eventually joined the Wellington Mounted llifles, reached Egypt, where ho became a foot soldier, and went to Gallipoli. There he was so seriously injured by a shell exploding just in front of him. that he was conveyed to England, where he was paralysed down one side for many months. However, he must have recovered in a miraculous manner, for next news of him was that ho had joined the Coldstream Guards in France. Lieutenant Richardson's eldest brother, Sir Edward StewartRichardson, was killed early in the war also in France, and his younger brother Neil was "shrapnelled" about the same time and was invalided home. He is the only ono of the family left. Sir Edward leaves an heir to his baronetcy, for he married Lady Constance McKenzie, who is well known upon the stage, by whom he had two young sons. The baTonetcy was created in 1630 under the _ name of "Pencartland," but the familv residence was Pitfour Castle, in Scotland. ' I
