PRESBYTERIAN BOYS' HOME.

OPENING CEREMONY

Tho authorities of the Presbyterian Social Scrvice Committee having decided to take the bigger boys from the Bligh's Road Orphanage, and givo thorn fresh quarters in Merivalo, have choscn an ideal site for a homo at To Kiheroa, tho old homo of tho lato Mr J. C. Wilkin. The building consists or ten rooms and all conveniences; beautifully placed among trees. This home was opened on Saturday, when there was a largo attendance. The Rev. Dr. Erwin presided, and the proceedings opened with praise and prayer, the Rev. D. D. Rodger leading. The Rev Dr. Erwm apologised for the absence of Mr. H. W. Bisnop, and Mr Mitchell, who had been treasurer of tho home since its inception, and also the Revs'. A. T. Thompson and JPaterson. Dr. ihrwin stated , that it had beoomo incumbent on them to move the boys to a different home, and the rammittee had leased '"Te K.ihei'oa. were 54 children at Bligh's road, and 15 boys had been transferred to the now premises. The schemo had met with much support, and the property at Bligh's xoad was now perfectly free of debt, and they had £4000 in hand besides as capital. (Applause):' In the Dunedin homes thero were over 200 children and 50 or 60 of them were out earning for themselves, and he felt sure that in this homo they would be carrying on a great and useful W His Worship the Mayor. Mr -H. Holland, said there was no sphere of work which gave such rich reward as labour among the young, and he congratulated the chairman and the Presbyterian community on the homo they were building up- Ho warmly commended tho Presbyterian community on the manner in which they had taken up the work. Tho Rev. F. Rule also spoke. Ho said that no child of Presbyterian parents, rendered fatherless through the war, need go l to any but a Presbyterian institution. In tho name of t&c Presbytery he would say that the Church would see that "ot a single child of Presbyterian parentage should want £t l)ome. The collection Tealised £22 3s.
