In connexion with Anzac Day. to bo observed to-day, a well-attended meeting j of returned soldiers was held last night,. Captain F. B. Brown presiding. Various details in connexion with today's function were considered and decided upon. The street collection will start at 8.30 a.m., when the city will be invaded by a battalion of Anzacs equipped with collecting boxes and a supply of badges, on c of which will be presented to every giver of sixpence and over. .The street collection will last till' 2 n.m. In addition there "willbe two Union Jacks spread on tables, one in Cathedral square ancTthe other in Cashel street, near Beath's. They will be in charge of young ladies, and the Tjublic are-invited to break Auckland's record, and cover the flags with more than twenty layers of silver coins At 2.15 the military procession will form in Victoria square. It will be headed by three bands, and will include the" Soldiers' Queen (Mrs G. E. Rhodes), returned soldiers, members of the C.D.C., veterans, members of the St.' John Ambulance Nursing Division, the Christ's College Cadets, and Boy. Scouts. Colonel Murphy, O.C. Ist Canterbury Regiment, hopes that the Cashmere camp will be struck in time for the Territorials to take part in the procession. The route of the procession will be Colombo street to Lichfieid (street, to High street, thence to Colombo street, thence to Armagh street, and thence to Hagley Park. On arrival at Hagley Park the procession will be drawn up to await the arrival of his Excellent the Governor, after which there "ill be a grand march past. After tne march' past, the Christ's College Cadets and th e Anzacs will take part in an attack, which is timed to begin at 3.30 p.m. In the evening an exhibition of Gallipoli curios will be open irf the Grand Theatre buildings; there will be a concert at the Colosseum, and the microscopical exhibition will be ooen. | The Flower Show on behalf of the I Soldiers' Queen promises to be unique in several respects. The show will be held next Fridav in a large marquee erected on the river bank opposite the City Council Chambers. AIJ the nurservmen are exhibiting, and are cooperating with the leading amateur gardeners to make a fine display. The Flower Show ha opened at 2.30 p.m. by her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, and a musical programme

arranged by Madame Gowcr Burns will commence at 3 p.m. A souvenir programme containing the portrait of Mrs George Rhodes, the bolcliers' Queen, has been' issued, and admits both to the opening ceremony and to the second concert in the evening. The Woolston Baud will play selections in the Square from 7 to 7.30 p.m. and outside the marquee from 7.30 to 8 p.m. Souvenir admission tickets may be obtained at the C.D.C Rooms, The Bristol, Milner and. Thompson's, and from leading jewellers and florists. Schedules are obtainable at Buxton's or from the hon. secretary, Mr J. Wyn Irwin. Box 199. Christchurch. In the rooms next the Grand Theatre in Cathedral square, a very interesting exhibition is being held, tue proceeds being in aid of the Soldiers' Queen. There are some fifteen microscopes for displaying different microscopic subjects. Three have been arranged for polarised light, .showing sections of rock and whalebone, both- of which are most interesting. Other microscopes are set to show the diatoms, which are the skeletons of the smallest vegetable life known, being wholly composed of silica. Insects and sections of plants are shown in a most instructive manner. Ayinarvellous machine, capable of ruling 15,000 "lines per. inch on glass is also shown. It is used for determining the magnitude of objects. One of the most interesting-objects shown is the coeiopia Littoralis, which, according' co Mr 0. D. Morris, is one of the suspected germ carriers of infantile paralysis. The exhibition will be open xo-day iiom 2.30 p.m. til] 10 p.m. At a meeting of the Nurses' and Women's Sub-section, held at the Hospital. (Mr Morton in the chair), it was decided to hold another Cafe Chantant on a much larger scale. Hunt and Cumberland reported that their band of boys had- collected a goodly sum towards funds, and Mesdames Allan and Down reported a very satisfactory result of Saturday night's concert. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Orpheus Society for their assistance. A concert will be given in Everybody's Theatre to-morrow at 8.30 p.m., in aid of the Soldiers' Queen. A garden fete, in aid of the Soldiers' Queen, is to be given next Saturday at Mr and Mrs A.'T. Chapman's residence, Fendalton road. PUBLIC SERVICES QUEEN. The Carnival of the School Children of Christchurch, in aid of the Public Services Queen, will be held at Lancaster Park this afternoon. Over 2000 children will take part. Stalls of every description will be on the ground. QUEEN OF THE HILLS. During the past week determined efforts have placed_thc Amuri candidate (Miss M. Rutherford) in the lead, deposing the - Ashley candidate (Miss O'Halloran). Waipara still remains in fourth place. The votes recorded during the week totalled 104,291. making 235,449 to date.
