' The fatality happened about 4 p.m. on the afternoon of November 30th, while Sapper Maxwell was on duty in our office at the .Apex. It all happened in a second ; a large shell came through the roof of the office and exploded. Everything was done as .quickly as possible to get those injured awav to the hospital and, considering the state of the roads. I tluhk I am safo in saying they were got down to tho beach in record time. . . . Beyond your sorrow. you must feel a great, sense of pride, well knowing that your son died such a noble death, in the very act of carrying out his duties. One of tho. other boys \ died earlier, so we buried them in a little graveyard near the beach. Jim was an active', cheerful bov, had a smile and a 'good morning' for everybody, and is greatly missed by all tho boys here."
