THE CONVALESCENT CAMP AT ROTORUA.

The Hon. G. W. Russell states the Rotorua military convalcscent'-, camp, which is now completed, will be - opened on Wednesday of next week. It !jf is expected that a number of Cabinet •' Ministers and members of Parliament will be present at the opening' cere- « mony. \
The building occupies a commanding position on the summit of Hill. It overlooks the Maori village ; of Ohinemutu. and looks rigajb; across. Mokoia Island. On each sido of the building is an octagon capable of providing bedding accommodation 150 to 200 men, or 300 to 400 in all. If needed, another octagon can bos| thrown out to the rear to as many men as either of the other tagons. The whole structure has been|j| erected on the open-air system. Tbell architect has been instructed to once make provision for tanks 16,000 gallons of water as a reserve) ..£ and for fire protection. A large work: shed is. also to be immediately erected, so that provision may bo made forJn- : i structing the convalescents in various trades. Tho first work to which thet will bo Bet is that of constructing all , the lockers for the wards. Colonel , j Newall is now in charge of the whole $ of the men at Rotorua, both in the§ convalescent camp and in hospital. Tho ; | accommodation at the hospital is bcing|| increased so as to provide beds for men in all. The convalescent camp ]»$ to be retained strictly for and any cases of sickness that occur at-j' the camp will be at oncc transferred to| the hospital for treatment. J : '
