SACRED HEART COLLEGE

ANNUAL ENTERTAINMENT. Tho annual entertainment given by tho pupils of the Sitters of Notre Dames des Missions was held in the hall of tho Sacred Heart College yesterday afternoon, there being n very large .attendance of parents and visitors. Tho Very ltov. l>oan Hills. S.M., presided over the gathering. This year it had been decided to devote tho whole of the proceeds of the concert to the Patriotic and Ked Cross Funds, and the pupils of the Colleges had foregone their prizes" to enable the money to bo used for patriotic purposes." In" one of the school-room* a Tory excellent and comprehensive display of oil and watcreoloar paintings, wood-carving, needlework, pen-painting, embroidery, and dressmaking was exhibited. The display wns much admired, and reflected tho highest credit on the pupils and tcacliots. »'fhc gold medal for the ITnx of the school, which Had been presented In- Mr G. White, was won by Margaret Hickey, the <rold cross for the Dux of «St. Joseph School, which had been presented by tho Hibernian Society, wa» won by Jessie Coates. During an interval in the entertainment, Dr. Thaekor. M.P.. raado a patriotic speech, and auctioned a cushion for .the total Mini of £*"d. The r»rogrammo for the afternoon was an elaborate one, and excellently carried out in every particular. The opening chorus of ''La Marseillaise" was well sung, and then canto the opening acts of a historical play. "Sir Thomas More," which was acted by a caste of about a score of girls, who played their parts cleverly. In the intervals between the scenes of the play, voral and instrumental items vrerc rendered by the senior and junior pupils, all the pieces being received with the heartiest sijins of appreciation. The record for the school for the past year was a £Ood one ; it had sent a candidate, for H.A. and Senior University Niholnrhhip: obtained two full jias>e<: and two partial passes for teachers' "D" ; two successful candidates for senior free places; five successful candidates for junior free places, twenty-one rr.n2rifncy, and oieht comnetcnev certificates, and good reports from the inspectors.
