SOLDIEKS' QUEEN.
At » meeting of tho General Committco of the Dcrcnco Territorial and Cadet Bovs 1 Sub-section, held in the Officers' Club Kooms. King Julward Barracks on Tuesday evening, it was decided to ask all officers commanding companies to call tbeir companies together to enable them to select a ladies committee from which four members will bo required to serve on the General Committee of tho sub-section. It was also decided that the Executive Committee of the sub-section should consi.>t of one representative nominated from each *mit. The question as to whether ladic* should serve on the Executive Committee has yet to be decided. ! PUBLIC SERVICES GROUP. I In connexion with the Public Service Queen, it was reported at a meeting of the Harbour Hoard. Lyttelton Sub-section, that, the staff of. the Board would contribute 21 per cent, of their salaries in favour oi that queen until the clo.-e ol the Carnival. It was also decided to set up a working executive of representatives of each department of the Board's service to make the necessary arrangements for marine excursions 'to be run at Lyttelton on New Year's Dav bv the steamers Lyttelton and Canterbury, and to organiee various other attractions. LAND AGENTS' SECTION. A i'urthc meeting of the Land Agents' Subjection of the Queen Carnival Fund was held on Tuesday at tho Caledonian Hall, Mr P. L. Davics presiding over a good attendance. The name, <>l Mrs Evelyn Clark and Messis E. J. Wilkinson fFord and Hadfifild), and 11. Hranthwaite, A. F. JaunL-ey (Spoils, Saunders and Co.) were added to the committee. Tho chairman urged tho necessity oi all members of the committee working together, and of taking up tho duty of raising their quota seriously: not mcrclv in a casual way. but by ungrudgingly devoting their time, and energy to the work and by making pecuniary sacrifices even to the extent of curtailing their personal expenditure if necessary.
Mr Ralph Stringer, lion, secretary pro tem. was unanimously elected hon. secretary, and Mr H. W. Bishop treasurer.
Mr Heslon informed the meeting that Mr H. L. Bowkcr had offered to sell to the committee a block of 2} acres of land at South Brighton for £100 if members would subscribe that sum. The £100 would then be handed back by Mr Bowker ns a donation and the land would be available for disposal by the committee by/raffling or otherwise. Tho offer was gratefully accepted, and arrangements were mado for lirms not represented at the meeting to be given an opportunity of subscribing to tho purchase money. Mr H. 11. Cook also presonted to the fund a clear title section situate at Wainoui Park, valued at £70, at whicli price the adjoining section has just been sold, for the pj,rpose of forming one of the art Union prizes of the sub-section, and Mrs Evelyn Clark placed a very fine marine clear title section, situate at Pleasant Point. New Brighton, at the. committee's disposal. Both donors were enthusiastically thanked, and hopes expressed that other firms and their clients would follow suit.

A meeting of the executive of the Sydenham and District Sub-section was held last night. The chairman and secretary reported that several of the largest retailers in the section had written saying their employees and themselves had started their weekly contributions, and had a fair amount in hand already, ft is confidently expected that the sub-section will raise well over £2000. A monster meeting -at all trades, employers and employees, is to be held in tho Sydenham Football Club rooms on Jauiury 3th, when the various subcommittees* for tho detail work of tho scheme will bo appointed. JEWELLERS' SECTIOTT. ' A meeting of the Jewellers' Section was held in tho Art Gallery yesterday. Mr Mnnttau was elected chairman, and Mr TV. Watson secretary. The meeting approved of the system of direct giving. Mr J. L'o'.'b was elected treasurer. It was moved by Mr Williams, and seconded by Mr Banes, that the sec- ' rotary and treasurer be instructed to wait on the employees and employers with the object of getting guarantees. The result is to be reported to the next meeting. It was dor-ided that the working jewellers and engravers and watchmakers he incorDorated in both the retail levellers' section.
