-J « WAIBEWA. J The monthly meeting of the AVaircwa j County Council was held on Tuesday.; Present Messrs J. F. Buchanan (chairman), Jas. V. Chapman. T. Thompson, W". F. Parkinson, T. Feather, J. O. Coop, J. C. C. . Gebbie. Mr John Parkinson waited on the Council and asked thnt improvements bo effected on the hack road letuhng to K ait una Valley.—No action taken. The. Mount Herbert County Council forwarded a resolution to the effect that local bodies should be empowered to strike a patriotic fund rate.—Received. , The Petone Borough Council forwarded ' a resolution in reference to tho War j Pensions Act. 1915.—Consideration } postponed till .next meeting. Tho! County solicitors advised thnt tho Coun- i ci! had no power to devote any part of j its funds towards tho local doctors' j guarantee, fund. Tho Public "Works : Department intimated that no funds i werojit present available for roads and bridges. The Raglan County Council requested the Council to dispense with tho services of single men eligible for war Tho clerk's j report -was. road, and it was I resolved that tho roquired stono at ! tho Hill Top be obtained on Mr Montgomery's land, instead of at the County I quarry, and that the thanks 'of the. | Council be tendered to Mr Montgpmery ; for permission to obtain stone free of cost. The action of the dork in having i shingle carted on Kinloch road in lieu of metal was approved.
SELYVYN. At tho last meeting of tho Selwyn County Council there were present:--Mr K. "Wilson (chairman), and Councillors Hockridgo, Lill, Payne, Stone, Murchison, Westcnra, and Andrew. The Kliosmcre County Council -wrote asking if tho Council desired to lease ib* own portion of Reserve 90, or whether it would be better to put up tho reserve for lease as a whole. It was decided to call tenders for the lease of the Council's own portion for a teim of seven years. Mr R. Keltie wrota resigning his position as ranger, and it was decided to call applications for the position. Mr A. Reattv was appointed roadman and pounefkeeper at Hororata. It was decided to fall in with the suggestion made at the conference of grouped counties at Dartield. that an executive committee bo formed in the county in connexion with the Patriotic Fund, to consist of two members of the Council and two meml.er.s of,each of the Hororata, Glenroy, and Dunsandel Patriotic Committees! At the annual meeting of the Council Mr K. "Wilson was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year.
