COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMAIRI. The monthly meeting of the. Waimairi County Council was held on Monday. Present Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman', S. Bullock, I-'. Sissmi, K. N\ . llawke, W. Nicholls, and J. Fitzpatrick. A deputation of Shirley riding residents, eonoi.stiny of Messrs Khodcs, Wilson, and Thompson, waited on the Council uitli refeieuce to the petitions which had o. en sent in to the Council asking for ceirerete channelling, curbing, aim asphalting to be done in the ridini;. Ihi deputation asked tliat in view of the heavv rating necessary, the asphalting should be deleted Horn the proposed si heme. The chairman said that the request for the work iiad l»>en made three years ago, and at intervals since. It was decided to erect a concrete culvert oil the Mottle Lake load by day labour. The chairman reported that he had taken advice with legard to the electric lightimi loan. He was advised to issue debentures at short terms of •>, 7. and 10 years. This course was agreed to. Mr Hullork moved iliat the engineer bo authorised lo deline a lire protection area to include Fendalton fas a centre), liiccarton and I'apanui, and to mako a valuation of the area. The motion was carried. lIEATIICOTE. The Heathcoto County Council met last night. Present :■ —'Messrs Geo. Scott (chairmanl, G. K. Burton, E. Armstrong, W. Searff, (■. M. Hall. C. I'lavell, F. W. Anderson, and J- Gudscll. The engineer reported that good progress was being made with installing the electric lighting .scheme in Heathcote Talley, and the sewer scheme had been completed. The work ol erecting the poles in the Uromley ward had been put- in hand. The report was ndopled, and it was decided that subject to the City Council pay.ng half the cost, the Tennyson street bridgeplanking be repaired. In a special report, the engineer stated that his estimate of the co.-t of bringing the Lake Coleridge main to the Cashmere power station was 10s, or including an additional wire from tiie power house to the upper level pump, ,L~7~> M's. Mr Ilall moved the adoption of the report-, and stated, in connexion with the financing of the scheme, that lie wa:i prepared t<> guarantee the amount.
