I As an instance of the present demand for Corriodale wool, it is worthy of note that 110 bales of Mr G. D. Greenwood's Tcviotdale clip wcro sold privately in Christchurch last week at an average i of Is Gd per lb. Another large shipment of dairy prodnce from Now Plymouth reached Wellington yesterday. It consisted of 10,705 boxes of butter and 7500 cases of cheese, valued at £74.007 10s. This brings the total estimated value of butter and cheese exported from New Plymouth and Patea this season to £591,174. j
RANGIORA. At the R-angiora yards yesterday a sheep presented to tho Patriotic Fund by Mr W. J. Guy, brought 275; another presented to tho Red Cross Fund by Mr E. Chambers los. and one presented to the Serbian Relief Fund by Mr J. Hodges 2()s. The meeting of representatives of local bodies called for last night in connexion with the Queen Carnival in aid of the Patriotic Fund lapsed, owing to the fact that except for tho representatives of the lianyiora County and Borough Councils, only two other delegates were present. Several of those in attendance expressed satisfaction with the results of the canvass, but other? were disappointed with their own nersonal efforts.
SOUTHBROOK. A successful cuchro party and dance promoted by tho residents of Southbrook Tvas held in the Coronation If all on Monday evening. Tho prizes were won as follows:—Ladies. Miss Myrtle Greig; men, Mr M. Seed. Alter supper a presentation of a soldier's outfit was made to Trooper A. Pawsoy, who was on his iinal leave from Trenthani. Mr d'Auvergne made the presentation. Misses A. Mehrtens and O. Martyn supplied the music for the dance. KAIAPOI. The workers in the spinning room at the Kaiapoi Woollen -Mills met on Monday to make a pretcntation to Mr T. E. Brierley, who has accepted the position of loreman >pinner at the Onohunga Mills. Mr Brierley has a record of over thirty year.?' service with the Kainpoi Mills. Mr • '.lait, in making the presentation of a case ot Loewe pii»es, tobacco pouch, and cigars, referred to the good leeling which had always existed between Mr Brierley and those under his charge. A contort was given in the Oddfellows' Hull last night by the Tramway Brass Band and Comedy Troupe in aid of the Red Cross Fund. The ball was crowded, and the various items were much appreciated. It is expected that the iund will benefit to the extent <>t £20 by the effort. LITTLE RIVER. A euchre tournament and social was held in the Town Hail. Little River, in honour of Trooper H. F. Marsh, who is leaving with the next Reinforcements. There was a laige attendance. Cards were played till ai»oiit 10.00, when dancing was indulged in till I.l~> a.m.. when the gathering dispersed. Dining the evening a presentation was made by Mr .T. O. Coop, the chairman of the Patriotic Committer, to Trooper Marsh of an auto-stron safety razor and a tilled money Kelt, and from the Rerl Cress .Soeietv a kritted jersey. Mr Marsh lia.s lveeo resident, here for about tom rear*, and is very nooul.T in the district. The prizes in tl>« euchre nnmenf were won a> follow? :—"Ladies' Mis* N. Foley and Mrs Te-»«>r- men's Messrs Samuels and T. K. Taylor. HINDS. After some intensely hot day?, the weather has cooled somewhat. A little rain has fallen, but not enough to do any great amount of good. Many crops are now cut and in stook. and
