I Sir.—Please allow me, through your ! valuable column, to enter my protest I against the unfounded remarks of | "Returned Now Zealander," published in yesterday's is»uo. regarding Australian' people and their attitude in this great struggle. I foci quite certain that had "New Zealander"' associated himself with the right kind of people i while in Australia, he would have ! brought back to New Zealand a different opinion or the Australian people. It I is quite evident from the placcs he luts quoted—racecourses, hotel bars, theatres, and picture shows—and his inode I of conversation, that his associations have been anything but the best. As tor a ioeliug of distrust deep and. widespread, I would urge that gentleman to change his companions. He evidently can only sum up his immediate surroundings. As for the recruiting, .1 would just like to tell this New Zealander that about 7000 recruits enrolled in oue week iu Victoria a short time ago. So, when he attempts to criticise again, lie should try and be fair. As for his opinion on ithe economic position. he stands self-condemned witii his | own utterance. Should he ever visit another country, I sincerely trust that lie will try to be reliable if ho is asked to express an opinion.
