Tho Government has placed t orders abroad for twenty locomotives at a cost of £100,000 to help copo with tho grain traffic. SALE OF AYRSHIRE CATTLE. (rnKSS ASSOCIATION TKMQRAU.) OAMARU, August 12. An important sale of Ayrshire cattle was held at Herbert to-day, when the well-known herd of Mr Janieci Prew was submitted to public auction. There was a fair attendance of buyers. Tho stock was in poor condition, owing to tho very drv season, and bidding was slow. * Pedigree cows brought up to £29 10s and pedigree bulls up to ten guineas.
