BARBED WIRE ENTANGLEMENTS.
Exp2riments have been made in England how best to overcome barbed wire entanglements. Tlu> result is the barbed wire travesor. invented by tho Wilkinson Sword Company. This invention m appearance is moro like a khaki-col-oured waterproof bed quilt, Gft square, than anything else. Experiments liavo shown its value. Thrown over a fence the sheet transformed tho barbed wire into a sort of wall, capable of being easily surmounted without risk of a scratch. Tho inner lining of the sheet is composed of cotton wool, which has been subjected to special treatment, giving it extraordinary powers of resisting penetration. The process is a secret, but the effect of it is that by means of a powder the fibre of the cotton wool is hardfned in such, a way as not to destroy its pliability. The travesor was tested by twenty soldiers recently across a barbed wire entanglement in a camp near London. The soldiers, all biing athletic men, were over the fence and away long before, in the ordinary way. they could have start?d cutting the wires. Not one of them received tho slightest hurt. The invention is no heavier than the ordinary ground and is soft to lie upon, and form 5 a y ery warm wrapping.
