« Lieutenant J. L. Turnbull, of the 6th Infantry Reinforcements, has been appointed camp adjutant at Waikanae. Captain C. F. D. Cook, formerly of Christchurch. has been gazetted staffcaptain of tho New Zealand Infantry Brigade. Messrs J. Tulloch and W. B. Denshire havo boon appointed the North Canterbury Education Board's representatives on the Ashburton High School Board. Mr R. A. Wilson, for many years a traveller for Messrs A. Cowan and Sons, Ltd., and well known throughout New Zealand, who left the Dominion for England some few months ago, has enlisted with the London Scottish. Mr E. Spencer, of tho New Zealand Insurance Company, who hag been transferred t© .Napier, wag presented with a pipe and tobacco pouch, suitably inscribed, as a email token of opteem from the oenmittec of the Linwood Swimming Club, of which ho was deputy-captain and handicapper. Private advice has been received in Wellington that Major G. C. Hamilton, of tho Grenadier Guards, who was A.D.C. to Lord Islington when he was Governor of New Zealand, has been awarded the D.5.0., andhas been promoted to the rank of LieutennntColonel. On his return to Masterton on Saturday night, Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P. was taken ill, and on Monday he developed srvuiptorns of either scarlet fever or measles. Mr Sykes was, consequently, rcniovod to tho observation ward at the Masterton Hospital, where he is doing as well as can be expected*
