DOUBTS CABLED STATEMENTS
SYDNEY, May 26.
Monsignor Coretti, tho Papal DeleKate to Australasia, gives no credence to tho cabled report that the Pope has Hubscribed. £4000 to the Italian, war fnnd, and has allotted. £40,000 to Italian victims of the war. The policy of the Vatican, he says, has always -been on© of strict neutrality. He also declares that it is unlikely that the Paris mossago'that the-Pop© is about to issue a manifesto approving of Jtaly's intervention, -and sympathising with the Allies, is true. The Church had subjects in all the belligerent conntries, and due care must tie observed •to*, to hurt tho feelings of any section of Catholics. ("Tim*—" and "Sydney Sun" Services.) It is reported that the Pope will studiously maintain the Vatican's neutrality, permitting Italian Catholics to act in accordance with their own sentiments. -
