At the ordinary meeting of tli e Woolston Borough Council, held last even- , ing, there were present—Tlie Mayor (Mr J J. Graham). Councillors D. AleKae. L. M. Hart. F. Newton, T. E. Jladclifie, J. B. Richardson, G. E. Lilley. and W. Fuller. Tlie Finance Committee's statement I showed a credit balance on th c general ! account of £41 14 S lQil, on the general j loan account a credit balance of £42 6s, j pn the temporary loan account a debit balance cf £933 19s 6d. Accounts amounting to £143 18 S od were passed for payment. The town clerk reported that during the year ending March 31st. 1915. 47 building permits were issued, the value of the buildings for which these were granted being £5723. In respect of an ink manufactunns works in Regent street, the Inspector of the North Canterbury Hos- I pital Board reported that an inspection , lof the work s had been made, and it was found that the process of manufacture consisted of heating iinseed oil and packinc it in suitable vessels. At the time of the inspection work was in progress, and there was very little annoyance from the fumes. The owner stated that he was negotiating for the purchase of other land upon which to erect a more suitable building, with means of dealing with the fumes during j the heating.
