SCARCITY OF OATS SEED FOR NORTH ISLAND.

(srrxTAr. to ".nt. r**_B-.' ! ) WELLINGTON, March 2(5. In part of the North Island, including tho Auckland district, it is impossible, for climatic reasons, to grow successfully any other variety of oats than Algerians. In consequence of the'past dry season there aro practically no oats in Auckland or Hawke's Bay, and as a result the farmers are experiencing very considerable difficulty in procuring Algerian seed. "Mr .Massey states th.it as much as Ss per bushel is being asked for such seed, and the suggestion has been made that the duty should be taken off Algerian oats, or that the difficulty should be met in some other way. Any other kind of oats in tho northern districts is invariably attacked by a blight, but, the Algerian variety seems to bo blight-proof.
