EXTENSIVE MOVEMENT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. (By Gable.—Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, March 5. Tlie Lord Mayor presided over a large gathering in the Town Hall, at which all sections of tho community wero represented, to consider the Belgian appeal. On a motion by the State Premier, Mr Holtnan, seconded by the Leader of tho Opposition, Mr Wado, it was decided that all the citizens of the State be invited to participate in tho formation of a national fund .to afford immediate, sustained, and effective relief to the Belgians. It was also proposed that tho Mayors of towns and cities throughout the State form district committees. Mr Holman said he anticipated that the appeal would realise in the vicinity of £30,000 monthly, and until tho collecting machinery was in working order the. Government was.prepared to amply make good any shortage. j
On the motion of Archbishop Wright, seconded by the Rev. Father O'Gorman, a strong representative committee, with Mr Cann as president, was appointed to carry out the resolution.
